About the Weekend
- Duke welcomes Longwood and Liberty to Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium Friday and Sunday, respectively. Both games will be streamed on ACCNX and available via the ESPN app.
- It's a throwback to tie-died shirts Friday night. Fans can bring a shirt of their choice and Duke will have tie-die kits available. Let out your inner artist and show the shirts off in the stands after!
Morgan's Message
- Sunday's game against Liberty will be dedicated to bringing awareness to mental health and erasing the stigma surrounding it within the student-athlete community. Visit Morgan's Message to read about the important work the foundation is doing all over the world: https://www.morgansmessage.org/.
- Do you know about 988? The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established 988 as the new, nationwide, three-digit phone numbers to connect with mental health and suicide prevention counselors. Please note that 1-800-273-TALK (8255) is still active as well.
- Young adults ages 18 to 25 in the U.S have the highest rate of experiencing any mental health concerns (30.6%) compared to adults aged 26 to 49 years, and the highest rate of serious mental illness (9.7%).
- University and college level student-athletes face pressures from academics, as well as other possible triggers of stress. These triggers include missed classes due to off-campus sports competitions, being away from home for the first time, social isolation from students other than their teammates and adapting to constant visibility within their campus and communities. Approximately 30% of women and 25% of men who are student-athletes report having anxiety, and only 10% of all college athletes with known mental health conditions seek care from a mental health professional.
- In a recent NCAA survey, rates of mental exhaustion, anxiety and depression have remained 1.5 to two times higher than pre-pandemic rates.Â
- 30% of female student athletes and 25% of male student athletes report having anxiety, which is significantly higher than the 1 in 5 adults who experience a mental health condition during their life.
