CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second consecutive year, Duke senior
Alaina McVeigh headlines the 2026 ACC Field Hockey All-ACC Academic Team as the Scholar Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday.
This marks the third consecutive year a Duke student-athlete has won the prestigious award after Piper Hampsch (2023) became the Blue Devils' first recipient since 2014. McVeigh's recognition marks the sixth time in program history a Blue Devil has earned the distinction.
Joining McVeigh on the All-ACC Academic Team are
Madison Beach, Paige Bitting, Julia Boehringer, Issy Carey, Ava Cickavage, Brynn Crouse, Maggie Kondrath, Kyle Massey, Sophia Miller, Ashley Stockdale and
Macy Szukics. This is the fourth honor for Bitting, Carey, Crouse and Szukics.
A three-time All-American and two-time first-team choice, McVeigh is the eighth Blue Devil to earn at least three All-America awards and the fifth to earn first-team honors twice in her career.
Duke's top scorer for each of the past three seasons, McVeigh became the second Blue Devil to earn three consecutive All-ACC first-team honors since the league started compiling two teams in 2013. She is the 12th Duke player to pick up three All-ACC honors in her career.
The Lansdale, Pennsylvania, product led the Blue Devil offense with 15 goals and nine assists for a career-best 39 points this season. The 15 markers tied for 14th in Duke single-season history while the 39 points are tied for 20th. McVeigh scored a goal in 11 games and had multiple goals in four games this season. She notched game winners in four games, including the 2-1 victory over Iowa in the NCAA Championship first round.
For her career, McVeigh has 45 goals and 14 assists for 104 points and is one of six Duke players to post at least 20 points in each of her first three seasons on the turf. McVeigh is also one of four Blue Devils to register double-digit goals in each of her first three seasons. She currently ranks 10th in Duke history with 104 career points and ninth with 45 career goals.
The Blue Devils finished the year 13-8 overall, advancing to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals.
