DURHAM, N.C.—Duke field hockey head coach
Pam Bustin and the Blue Devils are excited to welcome the additions of Alessia Cucito and Callie Rogers to the team as transfer athletes. The duo will train with the Blue Devils during the spring semester.
A goalkeeper hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, Cucito comes to Duke after two seasons at Louisville. After redshirting her freshman season, Cucito played in seven games and 154 minutes for the Cardinals last season. She finished the campaign with a 1.17 goals against average and a .625 save percentage, earning her first complete shutout in a 6-0 win over Bellarmine. She earned starting assignments versus Bellarmine and North Carolina.
"We are thrilled to welcome Alessia back to NC!" said Bustin. "Alessia is quite familiar with our program and with the area, having grown up and trained here before her college days. Her desire to pursue a Duke degree and develop her goalkeeping skills at an elite level are exactly the goals Duke True attains and celebrates. Alessia's premier talents, work ethic and enthusiasm will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our spring training and team growth. Welcome Alessia!"
Cucito was a two-time team captain and player of the year, while leading Cary Academy to three straight conference crowns. She was named all-state in her final three seasons of scholastic hockey and played in four straight Nexus Championships from 2021-24.
Rogers joins the ACC and Duke after playing 18 games for Maryland as a sophomore. A starter in 12 of those, the Richmond, Virginia native finished with two assists out of the midfield.
"We are excited to welcome Callie Rogers to the Duke field hockey program!" Bustin said. "Callie joins the program at an important time of player development as well as team building - on and off the field. As the team's spring begins, Callie seems right at home, both in the classroom and within our training facilities. Callie has integrated herself as a dedicated member of our team and we are excited to continue to train her elite skills and competitiveness as we prepare for the fall. Her attacking talents and mindset will be an awesome addition to our front field powers. Welcome Callie!"
She was a five-year member of the Collegiate School and played her club hockey for Richmond Panthers United and Relentless Field Hockey Club. Rogers was named the 2023 MAX Field Hockey Virginia Player of the Year in 2023 and a MAX Field Hockey All-American in both 2022 and 2023.
The pair will hit the ground running with the Blue Devils as they begin offseason training on the turf and the weight room. Game play will start in March for Duke with a host of spring contests awaiting the Blue Devils.
