DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team fell to No. 13 Louisville, 3-0 (6-25, 16-25, 21-25) Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke (8-6, 6-4 ACC) was led by senior
Payton Schwantz with seven kills and just one error to hit .300 percent while sophomore
Gracie Johnson added six kills. Setter
Alex Springate dished 16 assists while libero
Mackenzie Cole picked up 14 digs to Johnson's 10. At the net,
Lily Cooper,
Ade Owkoniran and
Lizzie Fleming each added two blocks while Cooper also registered a solo block.
Ranked second in the conference in hitting percentage, the Cardinals (8-2, 7-2 ACC) put up big numbers offensively as they hit a whopping .365 percent for the match. Louisville leads the ACC in blocks and tallied 14 today for 9.0 total team blocks.
Louisville opened the match by hitting .462 percent with 13 kills and just one error and followed up in the second frame with a .417 hitting clip with 18 kills.
In the third set, Schwantz hit .300 percent with three kills on no errors but Louisville's block continued to be strong with eight to force Duke to hit .111 percent. The third and final frame would feature seven tied scores and three lead changes, but the Blue Devils could not hold off the Cardinal's offense.
Louisville was led by Claire Chaussee with 12 kills to hit .294 percent while setter Tori Dilfer dished 31 assists.
Duke will close out the weekend against the Cardinals on Sunday at 2 p.m., on ACCNX.
