DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team closed out the weekend with a 3-0 setback (15-25, 22-25, 20-25) to No. 13 Louisville Sunday afternoon in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke (8-7, 6-4 ACC) was led by junior
Ade Owokoniran with 11 kills and just four errors on 22 attempts to hit .318 percent while
Lily Cooper added six killson zero errors for a .462 clip.
Gracie Johnson also registered eight kills in the loss.
Defensively, libero
Mackenzie Cole collected 11 digs while Cooper had three blocks at the net as Duke tallied 5.0 total team blocks. Setter
Alex Springate dished 28 assists and is averaging 22.7 assists/game this spring.
The Cardinals' offense picked right where they left off Friday and hit .296 percent for the match. Louisville leads the ACC in blocks and had 8.0 total team blocks this afternoon and is second in the conference in hitting percentage.
Both teams had solid hitting percentages to start the contest, but Louisville jumped out to an early 9-3 lead, forcing Duke to use both timeouts early in the set.
Louisville carried its momentum into the second frame, but Duke answered to hit .323 percent with 12 kills and just two errors. The second set featured seven ties but both squads struggled with their serves, combining for seven. Owokoniran played to a .500 clip with four kills on eight attempts but gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead heading into the third.
The Cardinals hit .259 percent to close to give them their ninth win of the year as the Blue Devils were limited to a .059 hitting clip. Duke jumped out to an early 11-4 lead but Louisville would go on an 11-3 run to help push them to victory.
Louisville was led by Nena Mbonu with 14 kills while setter Tori Dilfer dished 31 assists.
Duke will welcome No. 22 Pittsburgh and Miami to Cameron Indoor Stadium next weekend.
