DURHAM, N.C. – Graduate guard
Haley Gorecki of the Duke women's basketball team was named the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week Wednesday, after averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 steals in two games this past week for the Blue Devils. Â
Gorecki closed the week against Boston College Sunday in the ACC opener with 27 points, seven assists, four rebounds and a season-high five steals. Duke took down the Eagles, 85-73, as Gorecki drained 10-of-17 field goals. She became the 35th Blue Devil to reach the 1,000-point mark in the Boston College game and the 10th quickest in school history, accomplishing it in only 77 contests. Â
A native of Palatine, Ill., Gorecki also collected 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in a narrow loss on the road at Nebraska, 83-79. The Blue Devils have won five out of the last six contests and heads into exam break with a 7-3 record. Â
Duke will next travel to Columbia, S.C., to take on South Carolina Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., live on SEC Network.
