DURHAM, N.C. – Graduate guard
Haley Gorecki of the Duke women's basketball team was named the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week Wednesday, after averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 steals in two games this past week for the Blue Devils.
Gorecki closed the week against Boston College Sunday in the ACC opener with 27 points, seven assists, four rebounds and a season-high five steals. Duke took down the Eagles, 85-73, as Gorecki drained 10-of-17 field goals. She became the 35th Blue Devil to reach the 1,000-point mark in the Boston College game and the 10th quickest in school history, accomplishing it in only 77 contests.
A native of Palatine, Ill., Gorecki also collected 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in a narrow loss on the road at Nebraska, 83-79. The Blue Devils have won five out of the last six contests and heads into exam break with a 7-3 record.
Duke will next travel to Columbia, S.C., to take on South Carolina Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m., live on SEC Network.
