DURHAM, N.C. – Duke's
Ashlon Jackson,
Arianna Roberson and
Delaney Thomas each recorded double-doubles in an explosive offensive showing, powering the 17th-ranked Blue Devils to a 95-36 victory over SMU in ACC women's basketball action Sunday afternoon inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Jackson became the first Blue Devil since 2019 to register a points-assists double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 assists. Roberson posted career highs with 22 points and a personal-best 16 rebounds, while Thomas added 16 points and 10 boards.
Toby Fournier led all scorers with 26 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field.
Taina Mair eclipsed 600 career assists, handing out nine helpers to match her Duke career high.
Duke (18-6, 13-0 ACC) extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games while posting its largest margin of victory this season at 59 points. SMU dropped to 8-17 overall and 1-12 in ACC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a couple of early miscues, Jackson opened the scoring for a Duke with a deep three off the glass. The Blue Devils went to work in the transition game over the next couple of minutes, getting six fastbreak points in an 8-0 run for a 13-2 advantage.
- It was all Blue Devils coming out of the first media timeout with Mair sinking two free throws, Jackson draining a three with the shot clock expiring and Fournier converting a transition layup to stretch the lead to, 20-5.
- Duke held SMU to just one point in the final five minutes and tacked on four more points of its own for a 24-6 advantage after one quarter.
- Jackson (8), Fournier (8) and Thomas (6) scored 22 of the 24 points as the Blue Devils netted 16 points in the paint in the first 10 minutes.
- Duke's lead ballooned to 27 points, 37-10, after the first five minutes of the second quarter. The Blue Devils made six of their first eight shots in the stanza with Fournier scoring six straight points to push her into double digits for the game.
- Shots continued to fall for the Blue Devils while the Mustangs' offensive struggles continued. Duke shot 53 percent in the quarter with Roberson leading the overall effort with nine points and four rebounds in the frame.
- Defensively, Duke recorded eight blocks and outrebounded the Mustangs, 29-12, while holding SMU to just 22 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
- SMU scored the first five points coming out of half time, resulting in a Duke timeout just two minutes into the period.
- The timeout sparked a 15-2 run for the Blue Devils that stretched the lead to 37, 62-25. Jordan Wood keyed the run with two threes, while Duke's defense forced three turnovers in a span of 90 seconds.
- Duke closed out the third stanza on a 14-3 run, fueled by five points apiece from Roberson and Fournier.
- SMU opened the final 10 minutes on a 7-5 spurt, but five unanswered points pushed the Blue Devils' advantage to 86-33 with 5:51 remaining in regulation.
- Duke held the Mustangs scoreless from the field over the final 5:23. Thomas led the way in the closing minutes with seven points, helping seal the Blue Devils' 95-36 triumph.
