The Blue Devils will recognize seniors Ashlon Jacksonand Taina Mairprior to the game Sunday. A short ceremony will take place on the court with 10 minutes remaining on the game clock.
The Opening Tip
Duke continues its three-game homestand Sunday against rival North Carolina. Tipoff is 1 p.m. on ABC. The last remaining unbeaten team in ACC play, Duke has won 15 straight and is 18-6 overall and 13-0 in league action. Its last loss came Dec. 4 against LSU. The 13-0 start in ACC play is Duke's best under head coach Kara Lawson. The last time a Duke team won more than 10 conference games to start was in 2012-13 - going 15-0 en route to a 17-1 conference record. The 15-game win streak is the longest under Lawson, ranks tied for fourth among all Division I women's basketball teams this season and is the longest at Duke since the 2012-13 team started 16-0. The longest win streak in Duke history is 30 in the 2006-07 season.
Duke's six losses are against the current NET No. 5 LSU, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 21 West Virginia, No. 28 Baylor and No. 76 South Florida. The Blue Devils are led on offense by sophomore Toby Fournier's 18.0 points per game. Taina Mair is averaging 11.4 points, 5.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. Ashlon Jackson is playing both ends of the court at an elite level, dropping 11.6 points per game, a team-best 50 three-pointers and 4.6 assists per game, while drawing the toughest perimeter defensive matchup for Duke's elite defense. Fournier, Arianna Roberson and Delaney Thomas lead the charge on the glass, averaging 7.8, 6.4 and 5.8 rebounds per game, respectively. Thomas also contributes 10.6 points per game on a team-high 64 percent shooting, while Roberson adds 9.1 points and 1.2 blocks per game. Fournier is the top rim protector, averaging 2.2 blocks per game.
Duke and North Carolina meet for the 112th time. Duke is 30-17 all-time at home and last lost inside Cameron Indoor Stadium during the 2022-23 season. The Blue Devils split the regular season matchups last season and are 4-6 against the Tar Heels under Lawson.
Lawson Versus Top 25 Opponents
Duke will face a top-25 opponent for the seventh time this season and the 55th time since head coach Kara Lawson took the reins during the 2020-21 season. The Blue Devils' last ranked win was at No. 6 Louisville Feb. 5.
Duke is 0-14 versus top-five opponents under Lawson and 22-32 overall against top-25 competition since the 2020-21 campaign. The Blue Devils have fared well against Nos. 6-10, going 11-4. When unranked, Duke is 9-16 versus ranked foes.
Duke is 7-15 in true road games and 9-9 at home against top 25 opponents.
Rankings in the Duke-UNC Rivalry
Duke is set to face a top-25 North Carolina team for the 59th time in the 112 meetings and for the eighth time during Lawson's tenure. The Blue Devils are 29-29 in those 58 matchups and 3-4 since 2021-22.
Sunday's game is the seventh top-25 matchup between the rivals since the 2021-22 season. Duke has been ranked higher in five of those, going 2-3. The one game the Blue Devils were ranked lower, Duke came away with a 68-53 victory.
Inside The ACC
The Blue Devils have been firing on both ends of the court and are the only team to rank in the top seven of the major statistics in conference play.
Duke's offense has been steady in conference play, ranking first in scoring margin (25.5), assists (18.7), field goal percentage (.471), third in scoring offense (79.2) and seventh in three-point percentage (.347).
Individually on offense, Toby Fournier ranks second in the league scoring average at 18.8 points per game. Taina Mair (5.2) and Ashlon Jackson (5.2) are tied for third in assists.
Defensively, Duke is one of the best in the ACC. The Blue Devils lead the league in scoring defense (55.1), opponent three-point percentage (.249) and turnover margin (4.69), are second in opponent field goal percentage (.350), overall rebounding (42.0) and blocks (6.31) and third in opponent rebounding (33.5).
We're Going Streaking
Duke's 15-game win streak currently stands tied for fourth among Division I programs. The Blue Devils have been impressive in this stretch, averaging 80.1 points per game, posting a +27.0 scoring margin and shooting 47 percent. On the glass, Duke sports a +9.4 rebounding margin.
Defensively, the Blue Devils are holding opponents to just 53.1 points per game, 35 percent shooting and forcing 18.3 turnovers per game.
