Sowah Added to Australia FIBA World Cup Roster

VICTORIA, Australia – Former Duke women's basketball player Miela Sowah (Goodchild) has been added to Australian Opals team for the upcoming FIBA Women's World Cup.
The Queenslander was an addition to the roster due to the late withdrawal of Sami Whitcomb due to knee soreness.
Sowah joins Duke women's basketball head coach Kara Lawson and former star Chelsea Gray in representing the Blue Devils on the international stage. Lawson will serve as the U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach and Gray returns for her quest for another gold medal with Team USA.
A two-time WNBL Champion, Sowah recently led the Townsville Fire to the 2026 WNBL title. The 5-10 guard averaged 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 43.6 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent from beyond the arc for the Fire in 2025. Sowah played four seasons at Duke where she was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2019.
Sowah played a key role in the Opals team who claimed a breakthrough gold at the FIBA Asia Cup in 2025 and will join some of her golden team mates as they travel to Germany over the weekend.
The Opals start their World Cup campaign against Puerto Rico on Sept. 4. Tip off at 5:30 am (ET). The United States tip off Sept. 4 against China at 8:15 am (ET) on TNT, truTV, HBOMax.
