PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Duke's Riley Nelson and Arianna Roberson both recorded their first career double-doubles to lead the 21st-ranked Blue Devils to a dominant 95-41 road victory in ACC women's basketball action at Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon. Â
Roberson finished the day with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Nelson had 18 points and 10 boards. Toby Fournier also added 19 points and pulled in eight caroms. Taina Mair was excellent once again with 12 points, seven assists and five steals. Delaney Thomas rounded out the double-digit scorers with 16 points and six rebounds. Â
Duke (14-6, 9-0 ACC) posted a 54-point margin of victory over Pitt (8-14, 1-8 ACC), marking its largest win over an ACC opponent since 2011.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Mair opened the scoring for the Blue Devils with a corner three after a couple of early turnovers by Duke. The Blue Devils started to settle in on offense, stretching the lead to 7-0 with points from Nelson and Thomas. Â
- Pittsburgh came out of the media timeout and knocked down a pair of free throws to get on the board, but a 15-6 run in the final five minutes sent Duke into the first break with a 22-8 lead. The Blue Devils closed the opening frame on a 6-0 run with layups from Fournier, Roberson and Nelson. Six different Blue Devils scored in the first quarter, including six from Roberson. Â
- Duke extended its lead to 22, 30-8, in the first three minutes of the second quarter. Mair had the hot hand in the first five minutes with seven points.Â
- The Blue Devils continued to push the pace, turning defense into offense to extend the lead to 29, 42-12, and force another Pittsburgh timeout.Â
- The Panthers' scoring struggles continued as Duke held Pittsburgh without a point for 3:13 and to just eight points in the period to take a 51-16 lead into the locker room. Â
- Spurred by consecutive threes from Nelson and a third from Jackson, the Blue Devils put together an 11-0 run over three minutes to give Duke the 42-point lead, 62-20, with just over six minutes left in the third quarter. Â
- The Blue Devils maintained their energy, finishing the third quarter on a 14-10 spurt to head into the final 10 minutes with a commanding 76-30 lead. Â
- Duke opened the final frame on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a three-point play from Fournier. The Panthers answered with five straight points, but the Blue Devils maintained control, scoring 10 more while holding Pitt to six the rest of the way to seal a 95-41 triumph.Â
- Mikayla Johnson led the Panthers, netting 15 points and pulling down five boards. Â
