CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Duke sophomore forward
Toby Fournier was named the ACC Women's Basketball Player of the Week following her pair of performances to keep the Blue Devils unbeaten in conference action.
This is Fournier's first ACC Player of the Week honor of her career. She garnered the ACC Rookie of the Week award five times last year.
Duke's leader in points and rebounds this season, Fournier averaged 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game to help the Blue Devils upend No. 6 Louisville and SMU last week. In a top 20 matchup at Louisville Thursday, Fournier posted 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks to lead the Blue Devils to their first true road victory over the Cardinals, 59-58.
Three days later against SMU, Fournier dropped in 26 points and collected six boards in 28 minutes of action. She also had three blocks to help lead the Blue Devils' defensive charge. Shooting 75 percent from the floor against SMU, the Toronto, Ontario, native shot 50 percent for the week. The outings marked her 24th and 25th games in double digits and her 16th and 17th contests with multiple blocks.
Fournier ranks third in the league in scoring (18.0) and second in blocks (2.2). In conference play, the 6-2 sophomore is second in field goal percentage (.577) and blocks (2.2), third in scoring (18.8) and ninth in rebounding (8.3).
