The first half saw Duke score its first goal off a penalty stroke, taken by senior midfielder Amy Stopford. Just over three minutes later, Lopresti found the net on an assist from freshman Amie Survilla as the Blue Devils went up 2-0 early.
Duke's Ashley Pultorak put the Blue Devils up another goal at the 10:55 mark on a dish from Laura Suchoski, as Pultorak netted her first goal of her sophomore campaign. Lopresti then scored her second goal of the game at the 27:21 mark, putting Duke on top 4-0.
The Blue Hens found themselves in a fast-break situation as the seconds in the first half dwindled, but a stellar defensive play by senior Hilary Linton prevented Delaware from getting a shot off, and the Blue Devils would find themselves up 4-0 at halftime having allowed zero shots.
Both teams came out strong in the second half as neither team would net or allow a goal in the early minutes. Delaware received two penalty corners within one minute, but was unable to convert, as Blue Devil goalie Caitlin Williams recorded one of three saves on the day to spoil one opportunity, and a superb defensive play by Stopford would a halt a second.
At the 17-minute mark Delaware's Stephanie Swain slipped a shot past Williams to put the Blue Hens on the board and make the score 4-1.
Duke's seventh and final penalty corner would then lead to the game's final goal as sophomore Marian Dickinson slammed a shot past the Blue Hen goalie on an assist from freshman Lauren Miller in the final minute of the game, making the final score 5-1.
The Blue Devils, who improve to 2-0 with today's win, netted five goals on 17 shots, while the Blue Hens, who fall even at 1-1 on the year, netted one goal on six shots. Duke gave Delaware just three penalty corners while the Blue Devils received seven on the day.
"Overall we're not completely happy with our performance today," said head coach Beth Bozman. "We could have played better than we did but a win is a win and we're working hard to move forward."
In earlier Champions Tournament action on Sunday, No. 14 Louisville (1-1) defeated No. 16 Michigan State (0-2), 4-1.
Duke hits the road next weekend for two contests in Iowa City, Iowa, as the Blue Devils meet Kent State on Sept. 2 and No. 12 Iowa on Sept. 3.
