IOWA CITY, IOWA - The Duke Field Hockey team improved to 3-0 on the season on Saturday as the No. 3 Blue Devils defeated Kent State, 6-0.
Just over eight minutes into the game, Marian Dickinson slipped a shot past the Kent State goalkeeper on a rebound to put Duke up 1-0. At the 24-minute mark, Dickinson found freshman Amie Survilla in front of the net and Survilla put the Blue Devils up 2-0 with her first collegiate goal.
Just before the halftime break Duke went up 3-0 as senior Amy Stopford found the net for the second time this season. The Stopford goals came on the Blue Devils' 14th penalty corner of the half.
Dickinson struck again nine minutes into the second half, as she again slammed a rebounded shot past the Kent State keeper, recording her third goal of the season and increasing Duke's lead to 4-0. Cara-Lynn Lopresti then netted her third goal on the year at the 46:13 mark to put the Blue Devils up 5-0.
Duke's final goal came at the 53-minute mark as Dickinson dished out her third assist on the day, finding Ashley Pultorak near the net. Pultorak was able to slip a shot past the Kent State goalie to put the final score at 6-0 in favor of the Blue Devils. The goal was Pultorak's second this season.
The Blue Devils totalled 37 shots on the day, while the Duke defense allowed Kent State to take just seven shots. Duke goalkeeper Caitlin Williams recorded three saves on the day, while the Kent State keepers tallied nine.
Kent State falls to 0-3 on the season, as Duke continues to control the all-time series, 4-0. Duke will face No. 12 Iowa on Sunday at the University of Iowa's Grant Field. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m.
