MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay – Former Duke field hockey standout Leah Crouse recently helped lead the United States Women's National Team to the silver medal at the 2025 Pan American Cup in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The United States won its group, defeating Mexico, 10-0, Chile, 5-2 and Trinidad & Tobago in a 5-0 forfeit victory. After cruising through group play, the U.S. matched up against world No. 18 Uruguay in the semifinal. The United States scored first in the 37th minute off a penalty corner. Uruguay evened the score with seven minutes left in the contest, forcing a shootout.
United States goalkeeper, Kelsey Bing, stepped up in the shootout, keeping Uruguay off the board twice en route to a 4-2 triumph. The victory earned the U.S. a spot in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.
Crouse, a 2022 Duke graduate, came off the bench in the first three matches, scoring a goal in the 54th minute against Chile. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native also was a member of the squad that took the silver medal at the 2023 Pan American Games. She has 64 caps with the United States, including playing in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
After a period of time off, the USWNT will return to Charlotte, N.C. to resume centralized training. The FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium Netherlands 2026 will take place August 15-30, 2026.
