DURHAM, N.C. β Duke field hockey incoming players Lily Soldan and Shae Wozniak recently captured prestigious awards from Max Field Hockey for their stellar play on the turf this past fall. Soldan was named the Michigan State Player of the Year and Midwest Region Player of the Year while Wozniak brought home the Pennsylvania State Player of the Year and National Player of the Year honors.
Playing for Pioneer High School, Soldan was a force to be reckoned with on the offensive end for the Pioneers, finishing her senior season with 37 goals and 21 assists. Soldan, having started playing field hockey in third grade, concluded a highly decorated scholastic career with three consecutive Michigan State Championships. As a junior Soldan recorded the game-tying and game-winning goals as Pioneer rallied to defeat rival Skyline in the Division I State Finals. She capped her career by leading Pioneer back atop the podium again this past fall.
A mainstay in the youth ranks of USA Field Hockey, Soldan captured first team All-America honors this past year from Max Field Hocke and the NFHCA. She garnered all-state first-team recognition and was selected to the Michigan High School Dream Team in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Playing in both the midfield and forward positions, the Ann Arbor, Michigan native led Pioneer in goals as a freshman as the Pioneers finished as the state runner-up. Soldan plays her club hockey with Pinnacle Field Hockey.
Wozniak, a forward and midfielder for Conestoga High School, had a banner senior season en route to being named the Pennsylvania State Player of the Year and National Player of the Year. She helped lead Conestoga to the program's first PIAA State Championship, scoring the winning goal in overtime. Finishing her career with 139 goals and 60 assists, Wozniak had 32 goals and 22 assists in her final season.
Joining Soldan as a mainstay with USA Field Hockey youth programs, Wozniak scored an incredible 52 goals as a junior after scoring 34 her sophomore season. She is a four-time All-Mainline first-team choice and garnered NFHCA and Max Field Hockey
First Team All-America honors in 2023 and 2024. She plays her club hockey with Mainline Mayhem.
Soldan and Wozniak are a part of a talented group of incoming Blue Devils. Duke hits the turf in August for preseason training and opens official action at the end of the month. The fall schedule will be announced in the coming months.
