DURHAM – Duke field hockey senior
Piper Hampsch has been selected as the Chair of the ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the conference announced its 2023-24 SAAC Executive Board.
Hampsch, a four-year starter in goal for Duke, has been an active member of Duke's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee throughout her time in Durham. This past summer, Hampsch represented the ACC at the NCAA SAAC meetings in Indianapolis, joining student-athletes from across the country to discuss everything from NIL and student-athlete welfare to how they can have their voices heard in the governance process. In July, Hampsch represented Duke at the ACC SAAC meetings and the ACC Football Kickoff.
In addition to serving on SAAC, Hampsch represents Duke student-athletes on the Duke Athletics Diversity Equity Inclusivity and Belonging committee. Her involvement allows there to be a voice from the student-athlete perspective on DEIB and initiatives Duke Athletics pursues in that space.
Hampsch is currently pursuing a Master of Management Studies degree at Duke's Fuqua School of Business after graduating this past May. On the field, the native of Hopedale, Mass., has started 47 of her 53 games played in goal. She currently ranks 10th in Duke history with 213 career saves and sports a 2.33 goals against average and a .653 save percentage.
The 13th-ranked Blue Devils return to Durham this weekend to start a four-game homestand. Duke hosts Longwood Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. and No. 9 Liberty, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.
The ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee serves as the voice of student-athletes who represent the conference's 15 member institutions. The mission of the conference SAAC is to improve communication for all student-athletes at each member school and enhance communication between the institutions. SAAC takes an active role in understanding and providing feedback regarding NCAA and ACC legislation and promotes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, personal development and community service.
The ACC SAAC Chair serves as the organization's leader for the committee. The chair presides at all meetings.
