COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Duke field hockey junior
Logan Clouser scored with 1:08 remaining in the game to lift the 20th-ranked Blue Devils to a thrilling 2-1 victory at No. 3 Maryland to open the ACC/B1G Cup. Duke rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to post the top-five victory.

Piper Hampsch made three saves in goal for the Blue Devils. Duke outshot Maryland, 9-2, in the second half.
How it Happened
- The Blue Devils earned a penalty corner, their fifth of the game, with less than two minutes left in regulation. Maryland goalie Paige Kieft got down quickly to stop the hit off McVeigh's stick. The ball bounced out to Clouser who calmly put it in the back of the cage.
- Duke put pressure on the Terrapins' defense throughout the fourth quarter, outshooting Maryland, 6-1, and earning three penalty corners. Kiefer made three saves on the trio of corners.
- Maryland needed just 29 seconds to grab a 1-0 lead as Ashlynn Carr put away a pass from Maci Bradford.
- The Blue Devils settled in after going down early, holding the Terrapins to just one shot for the final 14:31 of the quarter.
- In the second period, Duke had solid possession, getting a pair of shots from graduate student Hannah Miller. Kieft made a save on the first and the second in the 27th minute was blocked as the Blue Devils headed into halftime down 1-0.
- Duke held Maryland to just two shots in the second frame and none in the final eight minutes. Hampsch saved both attempts from the Terrapins.
- Hampsch and the Blue Devil backline kept the clamps on Maryland's offense as the Terrapins managed just one shot in the third stanza.
- McVeigh evened the score for Duke in the 41st minute. It was her second goal in as many games, sending the Blue Devils into the final 15 minutes all square.
- The Blue Devils nearly took the lead in the 52nd minute as junior Issy Carey found herself in a one-on-one with Kieft. The Maryland netminder did well to come off the line and cut off the angle and make the save to keep it tied 1-1, setting up the exciting finish.

- In two games in a Duke uniform, Alaina McVeigh has two goals.
- The Blue Devils defeat Maryland for the first time since 2019, while the win over the No. 3 Terrapins is the highest ranked victory for Duke since defeating No. 3 Louisville April 10, 2021.
- Duke improves to 10-5 all-time in the ACC/B1GCup.
