McVeigh, Beach Gearing Up for FIH Junior World Championship

DURHAM, N.C.— Duke field hockey's Alaina McVeigh and Madison Beach will trade in their Duke Blue uniforms for the red, white and blue of the U-21 U.S. Women's National Team at the 2025 FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup Dec. 1-13 at the National Stadium Sports Park in Santiago, Chile
Ranked fifth in the junior world rankings, the United States is in Pool F with No. 10 Korea, No. 13 New Zealand and No. 22 Uruguay. The United Stats opens action Dec. 1 versus the Kiwis at 4 p.m., (ET). Pool play continues Dec. 3 against Korea (1:45 p.m.) and wraps up versus Uruguay Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.
McVeigh, Beach and Duke senior Macy Szukics were members of the U-21 squad that took silver at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in August. All three started every game in Paraguay, with McVeigh pacing the offense with 11 goals. The United States, on the back of McVeigh's goal-scoring prowess, cruised through pool play and defeated Uruguay in the semifinals before falling to world No. 2 Argentina in the gold medal game.
The Duke duo had outstanding seasons for the Blue Devils with McVeigh pacing the Blue Devils in scoring with 15 goals and 39 points and Beach serving as the top assist giver with 12 helpers. McVeigh's 39 points were the most in a season for the veteran forward while Beach's 12 assists tied for 14th in Duke single-season history. McVeigh's name is peppered throughout the Duke records book, including ranking 10th in school history with 104 career points.
The U-21 USWNT qualified for the 2025 Junior World Cup with a second-place finish at the 2024 Junior Pan American Championship, which took place in Surrey, Canada in July 2024. The team went 3-1 in pool play, falling only to Argentina. The squad proceeded to the semifinals with a 4-1 crossover win against Canada, then defeated Chile in shootouts to advance to the final and secure their Junior World Cup spot. The red, white, and blue fell 3-1 to Argentina in the title game to claim silver.
