CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Blue Devil All-American Lauren Blazing earned her first international cap with the United States women's senior national field hockey team Friday, taking the field in the finale of a four-matched capped tournament against Canada.
The achievement capped an impressive week for the redshirt senior goalkeeper, who on Monday was named the ACC Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season and on Wednesday was selected a recipient of an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship.
On Friday, Blazing helped the U.S. close out an 8-0 victory over Canada, which is currently 18th in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) world rankings.
"I feel so much pride and am so grateful to everyone on this team, all of the coaching staff and all of the support staff," Blazing said. "It's amazing the amount of work it took to get to this point. Watching everyone out on the field is really inspirational. It was a great tournament."
A three-time All-American at Duke, Blazing wrapped up an impressive collegiate career by leading the Blue Devils to the NCAA semifinals for the second time in three years. She compiled a 49-29 ledger in four seasons as Duke's starting goalkeeper and will graduate ranked third in program history in career saves (385) and goals against average (1.39).
