LANCASTER, Pa. – Rising sophomore Alexa Mackintire has been invited to participate in USA Field Hockey's U21 Junior National Camp, which will be held this week at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa. The announcement came at the conclusion of the 2015 Young Women's National Championship, which saw six Blue Devils take part in the five-day tournament.
Athletes attending the U21 Junior National Camp are eligible for selection to the U.S. U21 team, which will be named in July ahead of the Junior Pan American Games and the Junior World Cup, both of which will be held in 2016.
A product of Southborough, Mass., Mackintire was a member of the U21 junior national team in 2014-15 and has previously been a part of the U19 and U17 junior squads. As a freshman last fall, she made 17 starts on Duke's back line, recording three goals and one assist. She also helped the defensive unit post a 1.18 goals against average, which ranked second in the ACC and seventh in the country.
In addition to Mackintire, current Blue Devils Robin Blazing, Alyssa Chillano and Ainsley Gill were named alternates for the U21 Junior National Camp.
Duke associate head coach Jarred Martin, who was recently named the head coach of the U.S. U17 program, also announced the selections for the U17 Junior National Camp following the Young Women's National Championship.
