Erin Scherrer
Forward/Midfield l Chesapeake, Va. l Cape Henry Collegiate
Prior to Duke: A member of the U.S. U19 squad, Scherrer will carry national-level experience with her to Durham this fall. She totaled 66 goals and 61 assists during her prep career at Cape Henry Collegiate in Virginia Beach, Va., and was recognized as a third team All-America selection as a senior. The forward garnered all-conference and all-state honors for five consecutive years and was tabbed the state tournament MVP while in eighth grade. Scherrer was voted her conference tournament's MVP her sophomore and junior seasons.
Bustin's Take: “Erin brings to Duke field hockey more speed and a sharp nose for the goal. In her senior campaign, Erin helped her Cape Henry Collegiate (Va.) team earn a 13-4-2 record. She was also a member of the TCOYO field hockey club in Virginia Beach. Erin's enthusiasm to play and learn has raised her game to the next level. Erin joins fellow signees Caroline Andretta, Morgan Bitting and Sammi Steele as members of the USA U19 team where she has upped her game sense and improved her skill execution and speed. Our goal is to match Erin's skills and on-field decision making with her outstanding speed as she develops into one of Duke's most dangerous forwards.”
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
ES: My best field hockey memories would have to be winning the state tournament my eighth grade year and committing to play field hockey at Duke.
When did you start playing field hockey?
ES: I started playing field hockey when I was in fourth grade. When I first started out, my sister, Kelsey, would just play around with me in our backyard and that's where my love of the game initially started.
Who has had the biggest impact on your life?
ES: My two sisters have had the biggest impact on my life. They have both taught me that determination is the key in achieving my goals, and only by working hard will my dreams become a reality.
Why did you choose Duke?
ES: The high academic standards that Duke University provides for its student body as well as their exceptional athletic programs are what quickly drew me towards wanting to become a Blue Devil. Duke's community approaches developing their studies to the utmost seriousness, and the spirit in which they demonstrate in their athletics is what made Duke the perfect fit for me. Both the coaches and the players are very supportive and I felt very comfortable the moment I stepped on campus.
What are your goals for your collegiate career?
ES: Win a national title, of course!
