DURHAM, N.C. – The Blue Devils concluded the 2014 season with a 13-7 ledger and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship, marking the program's second consecutive and 10th overall appearance in the quarterfinal round.
Blue Devils Conclude Season in Top 10
After compiling a 13-7 record and advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals, head coach Pam Bustin's squad was ranked ninth in the final national poll conducted by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) ... The Blue Devils were among the top 10 teams in the final rankings for the second consecutive season.
Upperclass Trio Tabbed All-Americans
Three Blue Devils were named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America teams, as announced Dec. 1 ... Redshirt junior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing received second team honors after being selected to the third team last season ... Junior midfielder Aileen Johnson joined Blazing on the second team while senior midfielder Abby Beltrani was selected for third team recognition ... The ACC placed a nation-high 15 players across the three teams.
Duke in the NCAA Tournament
The Blue Devils earned the program's second consecutive and 13th overall selection to the NCAA Tournament field in 2014 ... Duke is 19-14 all-time in tournament action ... The squad advanced to the quarterfinal round for the second-straight year before falling to top seed North Carolina, 3-0.
Duke in the National Landscape
In the final edition of the NCAA Division I team statistics, the Blue Devils ranked seventh in goals against average at 1.18 ... Duke also ranked among the top 30 teams in the country in shutouts per game (13th, 0.30) and scoring margin (29th, 0.59).
Blazing Among Top Goalkeepers
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing ranked among the national leaders the entire season in several defensive categories ... The Durham, N.C., native paced the ACC in save percentage (.786) and finished second in goals against average (1.19) ... Blazing also ended the season ranked sixth nationally in save percentage and seventh in goals against average ... She tallied a season-best 13 saves against top-ranked North Carolina in the NCAA quarterfinals (11/16).
Devilish on Defense
The Duke back line ranked among the top defenses in the country in 2014, coming in at seventh in goals against average (1.18) in the final NCAA Division I statistics ... The squad ranked second in the ACC in shutouts with six and was second in the conference in goals against average ... Duke posted five shutouts in September and added one in the regular season finale at Richmond Nov. 1.

Buttinger Steps Up to Fill Scoring Role
Following the loss of Emmie Le Marchand to graduation last spring, senior Jessica Buttinger stepped up to lead Duke's offense in 2014 ... She paced the Blue Devils in points (22) and goals (8) ... The Waterloo, Ontario native also had one multiple-goal game during the fall and posted six assists to rank second on the team.
Breakout Year for Johnson
Junior midfielder Aileen Johnson came on strong during her junior campaign, concluding the season as the Blue Devils' second-leading points scorer (19) ... The Oceanport, N.J., native led the team in assists (7) and tied for second in goals (6) ... In the final conference statistics, she ranked among the top 15 players in assists per game (0.35) ... Johnson reached career-highs in goals, assists and points this fall and notched the game-winning goal on two occasions ... She collected second team All-America, first team All-South Region and first team All-ACC accolades for the season.
Blue Devils Move Up Career Lists
Senior forward Jessica Buttinger concluded her career at Duke ranked among the top 20 on the program's all-time charts in career points (t-18th, 69) and goals (19trh, 27) ... Classmate Abby Beltrani rounded out her career tied for 24th at Duke in career assists (17) ... Redshirt junior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing is fourth on the Blue Devils' career saves list with 284 ... Blazing also currently ranks third in program history in goals against average (1.47) and eighth in save percentage (.761).
Five Blue Devils Tabbed All-Region
Senior midfielder Abby Beltrani, redshirt junior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and junior midfielder Aileen Johnson earned spots on the NFHCA All-South Region first team while senior forward Jessica Buttinger and junior back Amanda Kim were named to the second team ... Blazing, Johnson and Kim made their second consecutive appearances on the all-region lists.
Duke Places Three on All-ACC Teams
ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced the 23 student-athletes named to the 2014 All-ACC Field Hockey Teams Nov. 5 ... Redshirt junior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and junior midfielder Aileen Johnson were recognized with all-conference honors for the second consecutive season, with both earning spots on the first team ... Senior midfielder Abby Beltrani received the first All-ACC accolade of her career in being selected to the second team.
