Eighteen members of the field hockey team had a grade point average of 3.0 or better and the entire team had an average GPA of 3.427. Head coach Pam Bustin commented, "I am extremely proud of our team's collective efforts in the classroom. Their commitment to their studies is evident in reaching our goal and earning an impressive team GPA while finishing within the top 8 field hockey teams in the country."
Six members really stood out amongst the crowd by being named to the Dean's List last fall. At Duke, there is no set GPA that constitutes an individual making it on the Dean's List but instead it is the highest one third of students in each respective college. For this past fall, the cutoff GPA for the Dean's List was an impressive 3.75. Chelsea Amsley, Lauren Blazing, Megan Deakins, Abby Hassinger, Tara Jennings, Mary Nielsen, and Molly Johnson all met or exceeded this mark during their fall competition season.
These impressive achievements both on the field and in the classroom show how dedicated the Blue Devil coaching staff is to seeing their players be successful in all realms of life. "What this team has achieved is the perfect example of the dual priorities of the Duke field hockey program...top level field hockey and an elite level education."
