DURHAM, N.C. - The 11th-ranked Blue Devil field hockey team will face Virginia on Saturday afternoon at UVA's University Hall Turf Field in Duke's final regular season contest of 2007. The game is set for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out: Duke won its third and fourth straight games last weekend, as the then-No. 10 Blue Devils picked up 5-3 and 5-2 victories over Delaware and Penn, respectively, at the University of Delaware's Rullo Stadium.
Junior Marian Dickinson recorded her first hat trick of the season and third of her career with three goals versus the Blue Hens on Saturday, while freshmen Susan Ferger and Camille Dagorn each netted goals for the Blue Devils as well. Junior Laura Suchoski dished out two assists on the day and sophomore Lauren Miller was credited with one helper, while senior goalie Caitlin Williams recorded six saves on the day.
Versus the Quakers on Sunday, the Blue Devils received goals from Dickinson, Suchoski, Miller, sophomore Amie Survilla and junior Ashley Pultorak. Suchoski and sophomore Brooke Patterson each notched one assist for the afternoon and Williams made seven saves in goal.
Duke out-shot Delaware and Penn by a combined 50-28 mark and the Blue Devils earned 21 penalty corners to the opposition's 14 on the weekend. Williams made 13 saves over the two contests, while the two opposing goalkeepers made a total of 16 stops.
Scouting the Cavaliers: Virginia is coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 3 Wake Forest (Oct. 20), and brings an overall record of 9-8 (0-4 ACC) into Saturday's game. The Cavaliers are led offensively by Inge Kaars Sijpesteijn (seven goals and four assists for 18 points) and Traci Ragukas (8 goals, one assist for 17 points). Defensively, Amy Desjadon and Devon Burnley have combined for two shutouts and a 1.88 goals against average.
Series History: Virginia leads the all-time series with Duke, 20-15, with the last meeting between the school's resulting in a 3-1 win for the Blue Devils in Durham (Oct. 28, 2006). Duke has won the last five meetings, dating back to 2002.

Duke in the Rankings: The Blue Devils currently rank 11th in the STX/NFHCA Poll, released on Oct. 23. Archrival North Carolina remains in the top spot (17-0) and Maryland ranks second (16-1). Wake Forest (11-4) ranks third and Michigan (13-4) sits at No. 4, while Iowa (13-2) comes in at No. 5. All six ACC schools were ranked in the top 20 prior to this week's listings, as Boston College (12-5) remains at No. 12 and Virginia (9-8) fell out of the rankings.
A Look Ahead: Duke will next travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for the ACC Tournament, which is slated for Nov. 1-4 at Boston College's Newton Campus Sports Complex. Seeding for the tournament will be determined following games on Oct. 28, with quarterfinal games set for Thursday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Semifinal contests will take place on Friday at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the championship game, which will be aired on New England Sports Network, Comcast Sportsnet, FOX Sports Net South and FOX Sports Net Florida/Sun Sport, is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
DUFH News & Notes: Junior Marian Dickinson netted four goals in two contests last weekend, including a three-goal performance versus Delaware, and now leads Duke in goals (12) and points (31) ... she ranks third in the ACC in goals and fourth in points ... Dickinson is also tied with sophomore Brooke Patterson for tops on the squad in the assists category (seven) ... senior goalie Caitlin Williams ranks first in the ACC in saves (98) and saves per game (5.76) and fourth in save percentage (.766) ...
