SANTIAGO, CHILE. ?
A USA goal off a pass from Duke senior Katie Grant sparked a rally by the USA field hockey Under-21 team in its fourth game of the Junior World Cup Sunday as the team came from behind to defeat Chile, 3-1. Grant was joined by Duke teammates Cara-Lynn Lopresti and Amy Stopford in the win.
With the USA down a goal early in the second half, Grant beat out three defenders to move the ball to the center of the circle, where high school junior Katie O'Donnell was able to tap it into the net. Lauren Crandall added a goal on a penalty corner in the 58th minute of play to give the USA a one-point advantage, and O'Donnell sealed the win with five minutes remaining on a free hit.
The win in the second round of pool play moves the USA to seven points at the top of a competitive Pool E. The USA has two games remaining in the pool against Australia on Tuesday before concluding Pool play against Spain on Wednesday. The top two teams in the pool qualify for the tournament semifinals.
NOTE -- Hilary Linton competed for Canada Sunday, helping her team to a 7-0 rout of Zimbabwe.
