The Duke men's and women's indoor track and field teams travel to Clemson, S.C., this weekend for the 2004 ACC Championships, hosted by Clemson University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday and concludes Saturday afternoon.
Several Blue Devils, on both the men's and women's teams, are currently ranked in the ACC's top 10 for their performances this season. For the men, senior Brent Warner is tied for first place in the conference in the pole vault with a school-record mark of 17-0.75, while Jeff Buttacio and Jeremy Davis are rated fourth and ninth, respectively, in the event.
Junior Nick Schneider has the second-fastest time in the ACC in the 3000 meters, with a mark of 8:14.47 and six Blue Devil men-Alex Romero, Ryan Starr, Dan Daly, Keith Krieger, Jon Fox and Morgan Clark-rank in the ACC's top 10 in the 5000 meter run.
Ranking ninth in the conference at 800 meters with a time of 1:54.23 is senior Jon Amt. Freshman Dan King has the 10th-fastest time in the ACC in the 400-meter dash (48.89), while Casey Reardon is 10th in the mile (4:13.81).
On the women's side, junior Paige Miller ranks second in the conference at 3000 meters with an NCAA provisional time of 9:18.30, a school record, while Clara Horowitz and Laura Stanley both rank in the top 10 in the event. The Blue Devils also have three runners in the top 10 at 800 meters, as Rachel Umberger, Lauren Matic and Jenny Fraser are all listed among the ACC's top performers in the event.
Shannon Rowbury's NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:43.20 in the mile is the second-fastest in the ACC this season, while Horowitz and Stanley are also top 10 performers. Sally Meyerhoff holds the second-fastest time in the ACC in the 5000-meter run, while Phebe Ko, Lindsay Van Alstine and Stanley all rank as well.
NCAA provisional qualifier Debra Vento is second in the ACC in the high jump with a school-record mark of 5-11.25. Laura Chen and Kristie Howard are top 10 performers in the pole vault, while freshman Kelly Reynolds ranks seventh in the weight throw. In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Allison Nesbitt is also seventh in the ACC.
