Winner of the Duke Outstanding Freshman Award for 2002, Schneider posted Duke’s top time in the 1,500-meters, winning the JMU Invite in 3:45.35.Schneider covered 1,200-meters in 3:03 before showing off a devastating kick, running the final 300 in 42 seconds and vaulting from eighth to first, winning by 15 meters. Schneider won in similar fashion at the Duke Invite, capturing the second section of the 1,500 in 3:51.46.The night before Schneider anchored the winning DMR for the Blue Devils in 4:06 for his 1,600-meter leg.In the Penn Relays DMR, Schneider led off with a 2:57 1,200-meters. Indoors Schneider was a two-time All-East selection when he ran 4:07.40 (second all-time at Duke) in the mile to advance to the IC4A final where he was eighth. Then, in his third race in 24 hours, he anchored the 4X800-meter relay to the No. 2 all-time clocking of 7:33.57.Schnieder’s other indoor highlights included the Millrose 4X800 relay, which finished third overall and first among colleges, and anchoring the DMR to victory at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet with a 4:07 1,600 split that gave the Blue Devils a 9:46.20 time, No. 3 all-time indoors.Schneider placed fifth at ACC Indoors after posting a then personal best of 4:10.79 in trials.Outdoors Schneider earnedhis third All-East title at IC4A’s with a 3:49.61 in prelims and a 3:49.13 in the finals to place fifth. In cross-country Schneider ran second or third man in the first three meets before ending a long year in which he had won the Millrose High School Mile and the National Scholastic Outdoor Mile.
