DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball surrendered eight runs across the first three innings and could not bounce back at the plate, falling 9-0 to Miami on Saturday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field. The Blue Devils (14-7, 2-3 ACC) received 8.1 innings of work from their bullpen after starter

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami struck first after Matthew Nochowitz allowed two early runs before the Duke starter exited following 13 pitches due to an injury to his throwing arm with two outs in the frame. The Hurricanes added a third run, with an RBI single, to cap the three-run inning.
- The visitors added more four more runs in the second inning, taking a 7-0 lead. The Hurricanes tacked on an RBI single in the top of the third, but Duke's defense turned a 4-6-3 double-play to end the top half of the frame.
- Michael DiMartini led off the bottom half with a double, and promptly swiped third base. Tyler Albright worked the second walk of his afternoon, but the Hurricanes escaped the jam with a double play of their own.
- Duke's defense once again ended an inning with another double play in the top of the fourth -- the Blue Devils' fourth time turning two across the first two games of the series.
- Both teams threw clean frames for the next two innings. Duke threatened in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of runners in scoring position, but was unable to bring home its first run of the contest.Â
- The Hurricanes tacked on a home run in the top of the ninth, finishing off their 9-0 win.Â
