DURHAM, N.C. – Along with the 12 returning letterwinners from last season, the Duke softball program also welcomed 10 newcomers in six freshman and four transfers. During the fall, GoDuke.com will be spotlighting each of the 10 newcomers ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The next Blue Devil spotlight is transfer sophomore pitcher
Mallory Wheeler. Wheeler joins the Blue Devils after playing her freshman season at Louisiana. The Jensen Beach, Fla., native posted a 3.48 ERA after 32 appearances in the circle, earning 19 starts. She collected a team-high 13 wins on the year and threw nine complete games, including two solo shutouts. Wheeler led the Cajuns' pitching staff with 81 strikeouts over 136.2 innings.
GoDuke.com: What are you most excited about this season?
Mallory Wheeler: I am most excited for growing with a new community and new people and seeing where this team takes us.
GD: What is your favorite part about softball?
MW: My favorite part about softball is the friendships you make along the way. Some of my best friends have come from playing this sport.
GD: What do you like most about Duke so far?
MW: To be a newcomer here at Duke, I'm just very excited to be a part of the culture and experience being part of a new program and see where this program goes.
GD: What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of softball?
MW: Outside of softball, I like to read, bake and hike.
