DURHAM – Third-ranked Duke is set to open a three-game conference series with Virginia on Friday at Duke Softball Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
Duke (38-4, 16-2 ACC) carries a four-game winning streak into the weekend after a series sweep over No. 19 Clemson and a 16-3 run-rule victory over UNC Greensboro on Wednesday. The Blue Devils used a 10-run second inning to roll past the Spartans in their final non-conference road game. Senior
Claire Davidson recorded her 57th RBI of the season to set the single-season program record after drawing a bases-loaded walk during the second inning.
Virginia enters the series with a 28-14 overall record, including an 11-7 mark in conference play. The Cavaliers closed out their home schedule on Tuesday, falling to No. 15 Virginia Tech, 6-0, at Palmer Park. The contest was part of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash rivalry between the two schools. Offensively, Virginia is led by sophomore Jade Hylton, batting .353 with nine home runs and 29 RBI on the year. Inside the circle, senior Savanah Henley leads with her 1.65 ERA after 10 appearances.
