DURHAM – Strong pitching down the stretch and a three-run sixth inning lifted the Duke baseball team past NC State, 7-4, on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.
Duke (21-29, 10-17 ACC) out-hit NC State (32-17, 14-12 ACC) 10-6 and struck out 10 NC State batters to just three Duke strikeouts offensively. The Blue Devils scored the final six runs of the game to take the victory.
Sophomore
Luke Storm finished 3-for-4 at the plate on the day with three RBIs and a double. Storm now leads the program with a .333 batting average in ACC play.
Senior
Cooper Stinson started on the mound for Duke. The right-hander allowed one run on three hits while striking out a pair in 1.1 innings pitched. For NC State, southpaw Canaan Silver started on the mound and allowed one run on five hits and a walk in three innings of work.

Luke Fox and senior
Jimmy Loper were stellar out of the pen. A native of Waukesha, Wis., Fox fanned three while allowing two walks in 2.2 hitless innings to earn the win. Loper secured his fifth save of the season after pitching three shutout innings with three strikeouts.
The Wolfpack jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the middle of the third inning. Duke chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the third, as freshman
Alex Mooney led off the inning with a double before scoring on a groundout by Schreck. NC State scored another in the top of the fourth inning to increase its lead, 4-1.
The Blue Devils tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a trio of runs on two hits. Sophomore

Wil Hoyle singled to lead off the inning before Mooney earned the RBI on a groundout. Later in the inning, Schreck drew an RBI walk before Storm hit a sacrifice fly.
Duke took the lead in the in bottom of the sixth inning, 7-4, after scoring three runs on two hits and an error. Storm hit a two-RBI double off the wall in left center to plate Schreck and junior

Chris Crabtree lined a single up the middle to score Storm from second.
Loper closed for Duke, keeping the NC State offense at bay over the last three innings.
Prior to the start of the contest, Duke honored 17 graduates in its annual Senior Day. The group of seniors and graduate students has etched their names in program history by leading the program to NCAA Regionals, a Super Regional in 2019 and the ACC Championship in 2021. The group honored included
