2022: Tabbed to the ACC All-Freshman Team ... started all 54 games at shortstop ... finished second on the team in batting average (.292) and walks (27) while going 12-for-13 on the bases ... led the team in runs scored (45) ... became the fifth player in program history to earn freshman all-conference honors ... put together a strong second half of the season after a slow start, slashing .336/.443/.418 in the final 27 games of the season ... produced a 16-game hitting streak, the longest by a Blue Devil in the season, over the final three weeks of the season, hitting over .380 with a .500-plus OBP during the stretch ... only player on the team to hold two four-hit games in the season ... strung together three consecutive multi-hit games in the first week of play, including stealing two bases against VMI (2/19) ... went 4-for-6 with four RBIs and two doubles against Bucknell (3/6) ... followed that performance with five RBIs against UMass Lowell (3/8) ... produced a nine-game hitting streak from March 22 through April 6 ... finished 4-for-5 with an RBI against Campbell (4/12) ... went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs, two doubles and a pair of walks in the series opener versus No. 10 Notre Dame ... enjoyed a strong weekend at Pittsburgh, going 7-for-12 in the series ... went 3-for-5 versus NC State with an RBI and a double.Â
Prior to Duke: Lettered four seasons at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s under head coach Matt Petry … tabbed the 12th overall player and the No. 5 shortstop in the class of 2021 … ranked the top player in Michigan … rated as the top freshman entering collegiate baseball by Perfect Game … two-time Michigan Division 2 state champion as a sophomore and senior … enjoyed a stellar senior season that culminated in 2021 MHSAA Dream Team, Michigan Mr. Baseball and Perfect Game/Rawlings Michigan High School Player of the Year honors … hit .460 with 11 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 57 RBIs in 44 games as a senior … also slugged .791 with a .564 on-base percentage while added 28 stolen bases in 29 attempts … missed his junior season due to the COVID-19 pandemic … also earned 2019 MHSAA Dream Team and Michigan High School Player of the Year recognition as a sophomore … batted .444 with 15 doubles, seven home runs and 42 RBIs as a sophomore in 2019 … added 21 stolen bases … competed for Canes National on the club scene … named Perfect Game All-American and Under Armour All-American … tabbed the MVP of the 2020 Perfect Game All-American Classic … off the diamond, a member of National Honor Society and 2018 and 2020 class president … named to the 2020 and 2021 All-State Academic teams.

Personal: Born Alexander Joseph Mooney on July 6, 2002 … son of Joseph and Jennifer Mooney … has two brothers, Jack and Ryan … dad, Joseph, was a member of the Michigan baseball program from 1990-1991 … he earned the Steve Boros Award as the team’s top scholar athlete in 1991.
