DURHAM – Duke fell to Wake Forest in the opening game of a three-game series, 5-2, on Friday night at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem.

The Blue Devils dropped to 13-17 overall and 3-10 in ACC play while Wake Forest improved to 23-7 and 7-6 in league play.Â

Graham Pauley led the Blue Devils offensively, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Pauley's performance was his team-leading 12th multi-hit game of the season. Senior
RJ Schreck extended his on-base streak to 13 games, going 1-for-4.

Marcus Johnson started on the hill for Duke. Johnson allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk in six innings of work. The Fontana, Calif., native fanned six in the outing. Opposing Johnson, Wake Forest's Rhett Lowder allowed two runs on six hits while striking out three.

Wake Forest opened the scoring in the fourth inning, stringing together three consecutive two-out singles to plate a pair of runs. The Deamon Deacons extended their lead to 5-0 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Duke responded with runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to make it 5-2. In the sixth, Pauley and Schreck recorded back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with two outs. Junior
Chad Knight followed the duo with an RBI double. Freshman
Devin Obee hit a solo home run for Duke's lone run in the seventh. It was Obee's third home run in as many games.

Aaron Beasley had a strong two-inning outing from the bullpen for the Blue Devils. Beasley allowed just one hit while striking out one in seven batters.
