CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior
Joey Loperfido recorded Duke's first grand slam of the season but the Duke baseball team fell to No. 19 Miami, 11-5, in game two of the three-game ACC series at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla.

Loperfido's grand slam in the fourth inning highlighted the Blue Devils' day at the plate. The Haddonfield, N.J., native finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs, a grand slam and a double.

Sophomore
Henry Williams got the start on the hill for Duke. Williams allowed eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits in 1.2 innings of work and was tagged with the loss. The Darien, Conn., native struck out 5 during his time on the bump.

Duke (11-12, 5-9 ACC) dropped into an eight-run hole after the second inning as Miami (15-8, 9-7 ACC) took a quick lead. The Blue Devils got on the board in the top of the fifth inning as Loperfido roped a ball over the left-field wall for the first grand slam of his career.

The Hurricanes added two more in the bottom of the seventh before Loperfido doubled in Duke's final frame to score graduate student
Chase Cheek from second and make the game's final score, 11-5.

Freshmen
Josh Allen and
Luke Fox made appearances in relief for Duke. The duo allowed just one unearned run on five hits over 4.1 innings of work to stall the Miami offense. Fox registered a career-high four strikeouts during his 2.0 innings on the hill.

Duke will close out the series at Miami on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mark Light Field.

Postgame Notes:
- Loperfido's grand slam was the first of his career and his 12th home run of his career.
- Loperfido reached base for the 16th consecutive game, a streak that leads the team, thanks to being hit by pitch for a team-leading sixth time.
- Junior Kyle Salley made his first appearance of the season, allowing one hit and a walk in a scoreless eighth inning.
