CLEMSON, S.C. – The Duke women's track & field team finished sixth at the ACC Indoor Championships with 59 team points while the men tallied 32 points to take ninth as three days of competition concluded Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Complex.
Four medals in women's events went to Blue Devils over the weekend, culminated by a silver-winning performance in the women's 60-meter hurdles by senior
Erin Marsh on Saturday. After improving her own school record on Friday night with a time of 8.18 seconds in the preliminaries, Marsh was able to clock a personal-best 8.06 to take second in the final run. It marks her second silver medal of the weekend, as she placed as the runner-up in the women's high jump on Thursday, as well as her third All-ACC performance.
With two earned at Clemson, Marsh now has four career medals at the ACC Indoor Championships.
Another program record fell Saturday in the men's 4x400m relay, as the team of sophomore
Ezra Mellinger, freshman
Alejandro Rodriguez, graduate-student
Alex Schwedt and senior
Miles Mingo compiled a finishing time of 3:11.15. That mark beats the previous Duke record of 3:13.77 set during the 2007 indoor season. It was also good for fourth in the event, which earns the Duke men their first All-ACC recognition in the 4x400 since at least 1995.
Redshirt-senior
Ben Beatty, the program record holder in both the men's weight throw and shot put, capped off his historic indoor career by earning his first ACC medal and first All-ACC honor. The Fredericksburg, Va., native claimed bronze in the shot put by recording a PR mark of 18.43 meters (60-5.75 feet), which narrowly bests his previous record of 18.42 set at the "Doc" Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet in early February.
Senior
Leigha Torino picked up second-team All-ACC status by finishing sixth in the women's 800m. Torino's time of 2:05.20 marks a PR and ranks fourth all-time at Duke.
The duo of sophomore
Carly King and senior
Lauren Hoffman each set a PR in the women's 400m, led by King's sixth-place time of 54.67. A native of Davenport, Iowa, King notched All-ACC Second Team honors for the first time in her career. Hoffman followed shortly after with a seventh-place mark of 54.86.
Freshman
Jackson Walker finished his impressive debut indoor season by landing himself fourth in Duke indoor history in the men's 800m with a time of 1:50.57.
The NCAA Indoor Championships are set to be held in Fayetteville, Ark., from March 12-13.
