DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke track & field program culminates a successful indoor season as seniors
Erin Marsh and
Leigha Torino head to the Fayetteville, Ark., to represent the Blue Devils at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships will be streamed on ESPN3 for the entire weekend. All scheduled event times are subject to change.
Event Schedule
- Thursday, March 11: Marsh competes in the pentathlon
- Events begin with the 60-meter hurdles at 11:30 a.m. CT, followed by the high jump (12:30 p.m.), shot put (2:30 p.m.), long jump (3:45 p.m.) and the 800m (5:15 p.m.).
- Friday, March 12: Marsh competes in the 60m hurdles semifinals and Torino competes in the 800m finals
- The 60m hurdles are scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. and the 800m is starting at 7:55 p.m.
- Saturday, March 13: Finals for the 60m hurdles (6:30 p.m.) and 800m (6:40 p.m.) will occur if necessary
What to Watch For
- The Blue Devil women are pursuing their first indoor individual event national champion since Shannon Rowbury won the mile in 2007.
- The Blue Devils are sending multiple women to the NCAA Indoor Championships for the first time since 2018.
- Both Marsh and Torino will aim to become the Blue Devils first NCAA Indoor Championships top-three finisher since Megan Clark placed second in the pole vault in 2016.
- The Blue Devils are seeking multiple All-Americans for the first time since 2017.
Eyes on the Prize
- Marsh earns her third career selection to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the pentathlon and first in the 60m hurdles.
- Marsh qualified for but was unable to compete at the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships due to the cancellation of the event as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Her previous best NCAA Indoor Championship mark was a 16th place finish in the pentathlon in 2019 with 3,883 points.
- This season, Marsh owns the best pentathlon mark in the ACC and fourth highest pentathlon point total in the nation with 4,185.
- In competing in two NCAA events this year, Marsh becomes the first Blue Devil woman to do so since Shannon Rowbury (Mile/3000m) and Liz Wort (3000m/DMR) in 2007.
- Marsh is hoping to become the first Blue Devil woman to earn multiple All-America honors in the pentathlon.
- Marsh is the Blue Devils first three-time NCAA Indoors qualifier since Megan Clark competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Racing Into The Record Books
- Torino earns her first career qualification to the NCAA Indoor Championships, following a record-setting run at the ACC Indoor Championships in the 800m of 2:05.20.
- Her ACC Indoor Championships run ranks fourth all-time at Duke and was the 13th fastest time among all 800m NCAA participants this season.
- In addition to her 800m mark, Torino ran the third fastest time in Duke history in the 1,000m this year, with a time of 2:47.84.
- Torino becomes the first Blue Devils qualifier in the 800m since Madeline Kopp in 2017.Â
