GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Duke women's swimming and diving team placed sixth (647 points) at the 2021 Women's ACC Championships as the four-day meet concluded Saturday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
Eight Blue Devils made finals appearances on Saturday to close out the competition.
Three women reached the 200 breaststroke finals, led by freshman
Sarah Foley who placed eighth in the event. She recorded a mark of 2:10.12 in the preliminaries to reach the top final in the evening.
Sophomore
Kayle Park and graduate
Mia Bullock also represented Duke in the event, both competing in the consolation final. Park clocked a career-best 2:11.88 in the evening to place 12th overall. Bullock recorded a career-best time of 2:13.86 in the morning to move to sixth all-time in Duke history. In addition, freshman
Catherine Belyakov also recorded a career-best time in the event in the morning preliminaries, touching in 2:15.72.
Junior
Shayna Hollander and senior
Quinn Scannell competed in the 100 freestyle finals. Hollander placed 15th in the event with a career-best time (49.63) to move to eighth all-time in the Duke charts. Scannell competed in the bonus final and clocked a timing of 49.84. Freshman
Olivia Tighe's time of 50.41 in the morning preliminaries was also a career best.
Junior
Cabell Whitlow and freshman
Catherine Purnell reached the 'B' Final of the 200 butterfly. Whitlow placed 14th in the event (1:58.37), while Purnell came in right behind her at 15th with a career-best time of 1:57.75 that moved her to sixth all-time in Duke history.
In the 200 backstroke, freshman
Emily Lenihan turned heads as her time of 1:55.48 in the finals was the second-fastest in school history. She placed first in the 'C' Final and swam the 11th-fastest time in the event during the evening session.
Freshman
Emily Gjertsen served as Duke's lone competitor in the 1650 freestyle prior to the evening session. She recorded a time of 16:52.87.
Duke concluded its night in the 400-freestyle relay. The Blue Devils placed ninth in the relay as Scannell, Hollander, Bullock and Tighe combined to clock a time of 3:19.98.
Freshman
Seamus Harding Jr. competed in the men's platform diving final and scored an impressive 333.65 to place sixth.
The men's swimming team will take on the 2021 Men's ACC Championships the coming week. The four-day competition will span from Wednesday to Saturday. Because diving took place during the women's meet, Duke is currently in seventh place with 72 points.
