DURHAM – The Duke baseball team opened full team fall practice on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.

Head coach
Chris Pollard enters his 10th season at the helm of the Duke program. Pollard has led the Blue Devils to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in program history. In 2021, Duke won the ACC Tournament Championship, its first conference title since 1961.
Â
"It is one of my favorite times of the year", Pollard said of fall practice. "It is a chance for us all to be on the field together. It is a time of growth for our program. I love the development that happens in the fall. There is a lot of be excited about with this group.
Â
"We have had six really productive weeks of individual workouts, small group work. I think our guys are ready to get out there for full team practice and play the game it is intended to be played."
Â
Â
The Blue Devils begin the team portion of fall ball in preparation for its fall scrimmages against Davidson (Oct. 16 in Kannapolis, N.C.) and N.C. State (Oct. 22 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park).
Â
Returning for the Blue Devils are numerous veterans such as freshman All-American left-handed pitcher
Luke Fox, All-ACC outfielder
RJ Schreck, right-handed pitcher
Marcus Johnson, first baseman
Chris Crabtree and right-handed pitcher
Henry Williams.
Â
Duke also added the No. 1 freshman in the country per
Perfect Game in shortstop
Alex Mooney to highlight the ninth-ranked class in the land.
Â
"It feels a lot more normal so far this fall," Pollard commented in comparison to last season. "You compare where we are this time this year to where we were last year, it is a very different feeling. You'll hear that echoed by our players. The ability to be around one another in the locker room and interact with each other away from the field, it has had a much more normal feel to it, thank goodness."
