Wallace Places Third at Southern Scuffle

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — For the second year in a row, Duke wrestling standout Aidan Wallace placed third at the Southern Scuffle as he posted a 6-1 ledger over the weekend at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga.

Wallace, a native of Mahwah, New Jersey, won his first four matches to reach the semifinals of the scuffle. After dropping the semifinal match to Penn State's Will Henckel (8-3 decision), Wallace collected a victory with a 7-6 decision against Hudson Rogers of Utah Valley to advance to the third-place match. Wallace, who is ranked No. 22 nationally, was impressive to close the event with a 14-1 major decision against Max Magayna to finish third in the 174-pound class.

Duke's Connor Barket registered a fifth-place finish at heavyweight and now owns a seventh place and fifth-place finish over the last two years.

How it Happened

At 141 pounds, junior Raymond Adams collected a win in the consolation round with a 4-2 decision against Kyison Garcia of Penn State.Adams dropped his other two bouts Saturday.
Also at 141 pounds, redshirt freshman Noah Kochman totaled his second win of the season with a 10-7 decision against Hudson Waldrop of Campbell in the consolation round.
Redshirt freshman Dylan Ross opened the event with an 11-5 decision against Brandon Bauer of Campbell.After a loss in the round of 32, Ross went on to win three-straight matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the 149-pound bracket.He dropped a 4-2 decision to Wynton Denkins of Virginia to conclude action.
SP O'Donnell collected a pair of wins totaling a 16-0 tech fall against Jason Kennedy of Campbell and a 13-1 major decision versus Brandon Bauer of Campbell.
Redshirt junior Connor Barket opened the scuffle with three wins in a row.He totaled a 14-1 major decision versus Christian Bell of The Citadel, 9-6 decision against Shilo Jones of North Dakota State and a 4-1 decision versus Emannuel Ulrich of American.In the semifinals, Barket dropped a 22-6 tech fall to 14th-ranked Jimmy Mullen of Virginia Tech. Barket then dropped a 10-3 decision to Army's 18th-ranked Brady Colbert in the consolation semifinals.

Notes

Aidan Wallace has posted an 11-2 ledger over the last two years in the Southern Scuffle.
With his four wins on Saturday, Dylan Ross reached 10 wins on the season.
Connor Barket now owns a 15-3 ledger on the season and 55-33 overall mark.

What is Next

Duke will hit the road for a pair of contests at Stanford (Jan. 9) and Cal Poly (Jan. 10).The Stanford contest will open ACC action for the Blue Devils.
