Wallace & von Savoye Collect Wins Against Nationally-Ranked Wolfpack

DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke wrestling tandem of Aidan Wallace and Spencer von Savoye collected victories Friday in an ACC matchup against eighth-ranked NC State in Cameron Indoor Stadium. As a team, the Blue Devils dropped a 32-7 decision to fall to 6-12, 0-5 in the ACC, while the Wolfpack moved to 14-4, 4-0 in league play.

Wallace totaled his team-best fourth ACC win of the season and 25th overall victory in 2025-26 in the 174-pound class, while von Savoye collected his first collegiate ACC win at 125 pounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Devils opened the contest at 125 pounds with redshirt sophomore Spencer von Savoye collecting a thrilling 1-0 victory against Brad Yokum of the Wolfpack.After a scoreless first period, von Savoye notched an escape in the second to lead, 1-0.A native of Oakdale, California, von Savoye was able to hold on for his second win of the season and fourth of his collegiate career.
With Duke leading 3-0 to open the match, NC State went on to win each of the next five bouts to lead 21-3.
Blue Devil redshirt freshman Dylan Ross held strong with eighth-ranked Koy Buesgens of the Wolfpack at 149 pounds as he trailed, 3-1, after the first period.Buesgens surged in the final two periods to take a 17-5 major decision.
True freshman Mikey Boulanger was tight with Luca Felix of NC State early as he trailed, 6-2, through the first two periods, before falling with an 11-3 major decision at 157 pounds.
At the 165-pound weight class, Duke's Aurelius Dunbar went up against Will Denny.Denny jumped ahead, 3-1, through the first period, but Dunbar outscored Denny, 5-3, in the second to even the bout, 6-6, with two minutes remaining.Denny finished strong taking a 21-10 major decision for the win.
Duke redshirt sophomore Aidan Wallace continued his stellar play as he jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first period against Latrell Shafer at 174 pounds.Wallace, who is from Mahwah, New Jersey, collected a takedown followed by back-to-back nearfalls.After a scoreless second period, Wallace was able to register a couple of escapes and a riding time point, while Shafer added a takedown.Wallace won his seventh bout out of the last eight matches with a 14-3 major decision.
At the 184-pound class, Duke's David Hussey and Don Cates were scoreless after one period.Hussey collected an escape and led 1-0 after the second, but Cates scored eight points in the final period to take an 8-2 decision.
To close the night, the fans were treated to a ranked matchup with Duke's 20th-ranked Connor Barket versus second-ranked Issac Trumble at heavyweight.Trumble registered a takedown in the first and led 3-0 after the first three minutes.Barket trailed 10-1 following the second and dropped the match with an 11-3 major decision.

NOTES

Spencer von Savoye notched his second career dual match win and his first ACC victory.
Aidan Wallace now owns a 25-3 ledger on the season and 16-2 in dual matches. He is now 5-6 all-time in ACC bouts and 4-1 this year. Wallace moved into a tie for fifth on Duke's single-season wins list at 174 pounds with 25 victories.

Duke will conclude the regular season this week as the Blue Devils travel to Virginia Tech Friday, Feb. 20 for a 7 p.m., contest in Blacksburg, Virginia
