DURHAM, N.C. – No. 13 Duke women's lacrosse used a season-high seven-goal first quarter to power past Virginia Tech in an ACC matchup Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils improved to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Virginia Tech dropped to 7-6 overall and 4-5 in the ACC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke opened the game with a seven-goal run and held the Hokies scoreless until the final two seconds of the first quarter.
- The Blue Devils' first three goals stretched from 11:21 to 9:43, with Bernstein opening the scoring. Barrett followed with a solo goal, and Shearer assisted Goodwin to make it 3-0.
- Duke continued the surge with four more goals between the 6:00 and 1:36 marks. Stafford and Goodwin both scored their free-position shots, and sophomore Reese Woodworth found Pronti in front of the cage for a 6-0 lead. Pronti added another goal a minute later to complete the 7-0 run.
- Virginia Tech got on the board with two seconds left in the first quarter, but Duke led 7-1 heading into the second.
- The Hokies opened the second period with a two-goal spurt stretching from 10:58 to 7:50, but Duke responded with its own two-goal run. With 4:30 remaining, Bernstein scored on a free-position shot to make it 8-3, and Biancardi added another goal with one second left in the half off a freshman Maddie MacDonald assist.
- Duke led 9-3 at halftime.
- At the break, Duke outshot Virginia Tech 20-10, led in draw controls 8-5 and edged Virginia Tech 9-7 in ground balls.
- Less than a minute into the second half, Hem found the back of the net off a Pronti assist to make it 10-3 for Duke. Virginia Tech responded with a goal at 5:29, but Duke answered with goals from Shearer and Bernstein to stretch the lead to 12-4.
- Virginia Tech scored once more in the third, but Biancardi's second goal of the day pushed Duke ahead 13-5 entering the fourth.
- The Hokies scored their final goal with 8:35 left in the game, but Duke closed strong with two goals from Goodwin and Bernstein, sealing the 15-6 win.
- Defensively, the Blue Devils' goal was anchored by redshirt junior Kennedy Everson, who tallied eight saves.
