DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team continues its homestand welcoming two top-10 teams to Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils will face No. 4 Pittsburgh Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m., and No. 7 SMU Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. Both matches will stream on ACC Network Extra.
Last Time Out
The Blue Devils went 0-2 last weekend, falling in straight sets to both No. 8 Louisville and Notre Dame.Â
The Blue Devils fought tightly contested first and third sets, but was ultimately swept, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-22), by the Cardinals Friday. Sophomore Taylor Williams and freshman Ashby Zubchevich led the Duke offense with 11 kills apiece, while freshman Charlotte Glass facilitated the offense with 23 assists. On defense, sophomore Mailinh Godschall logged seven digs, and Glass followed closely behind with six marks. At the net, redshirt senior Ngozi Iloh posted three blocks to lead Duke.Â
Duke fell in straight sets to Notre Dame, 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-23), Sunday. Williams led the Duke offense with nine kills, while Glass dished out a team-best 19 assists. Zubchevich paced the defensive effort with nine digs, and sophomore Breonna Goss led the blocking with four denials.
Offensive Threats
The Blue Devils have tallied a total of 949 kills this season and rank No. 12 in the ACC in average kills per set (12.49). The offense is led by Williams with 222 kills and Zubchevich follows closely behind with 221 putaways.Â
Williams is having a breakout sophomore campaign with 222 putaways this year - 14 more than she had in 29 matches a season ago. She boasts a .182 attack percentage and has notched double-digit kills in 12 matches this season. Williams' last double-digit showing came last weekend against No. 8 Louisville, when she logged 11 kills on 38 attempts to hit at a .211 clip. Â
Zubchevich has been dominant on offense for Duke, recording double-digit kills in 10 matches this season. She turned in her best offensive stretch of her career, tallying 42 kills during the conference-opening weekend, recording 21 kills against both NC State and Wake Forest. Her last double-digit outing came against eighth-ranked Louisville, when she posted 11 kills on 31 swings for a .161 hitting percentage.
Defensive Efforts
Duke comes in at fourth in the ACC, earning 1,120 total digs, averaging 14.74 digs per set.Â
Godschall, who ranks first in the conference with 4.37 digs per set, leads the Blue Devils and the ACC with 332 total digs. She has tallied 20 or more digs in six matches this season -- Bryant, Houston, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Appalachian State and Wake Forest. Godschall also ranks No. 58 nationally with her 4.37 gets per set this season.Â
Godschall also leads the ACC with a career average of 4.24 digs per set, the highest among players who have appeared in at least 50 percent of their team's matches.
At the net, Duke has totaled 150.0 total blocks, including 28 solo blocks and 244 block assists, and posts an average of 2.00 blocks per set. Iloh leads Duke with 68.0 total blocks, marking the most she's posted in a season during her collegiate career. She has five or more blocks in five matches this season and posted a career-best eight blocks in the Blue Devils' second matchup against the Tar Heels this season. Last time out, she earned four total blocks, picking up three against the eighth-ranked Cardinals and one versus the Fighting Irish.Â
A Closer Look at the Series Versus Pitt
The Panthers lead the all-time series against the Blue Devils, 16-8, including a 10-5 advantage in conference matches. Pitt is currently on an eight-match win streak against Duke, with the Blue Devils' last victory coming in 2018, which was a 3-1 decision inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
A Closer Look at the Series Versus SMU
The Blue Devils and Mustangs have met three times in series history, with Duke leading the all-time record, 2-1. SMU claimed a 3-0 victory in last season's matchup, while the Blue Devils earned wins in 2001 (3-0) and 2005 (3-2).
