ATLANTA, Ga. – After dropping the first two sets, the Duke volleyball team fought back in the third but ultimately fell short, as Georgia Tech earned a 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16) victory over the Blue Devils Friday night inside O'Keefe Gymnasium.
The Blue Devils fall to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in ACC play, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-7 overall, including a 2-3 mark in conference action.
Freshman Ashby Zubchevich led the Duke offense with 17 kills, while sophomore Taylor Williams added 10 putaways. Freshman Charlotte Glass paced the Blue Devils with a team-best 17 assists. Defensively, redshirt senior Ngozi Iloh led the blocking effort with four denials, while Williams added nine digs.
How It Happened
Set One – Duke 16, Georgia Tech 25
- The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-16 win in the opening frame. Georgia Tech built an early 11-4 advantage before Duke claimed nine of the next 14 points to cut the deficit to 16-13. The Yellow Jackets halted Duke's momentum with a five-point spurt to extend their lead to 21-13, then closed the set on a 4-3 run.
Set Two – Duke 19, Georgia Tech 25
- Georgia Tech pushed its match lead to 2-0 with a 25-19 win in set two. The set remained tight early, as the Yellow Jackets held an 8-6 edge before going on an 10-6 spurt, taking the 18-12 lead. Duke responded by winning five of the next nine points, highlighted by block assists from Iloh and freshman Olivia Wayne, along with a Wayne kill, to trim the deficit to 22-17. Georgia Tech went on to claim three of the final five points to take the second frame.
Set Three – Duke 25, Georgia Tech 20
- The Blue Devils battled back in the third set to cut Georgia Tech's match lead to 2-1. Duke opened strong, taking an 11-7 edge before the teams traded points midway through the frame, with the Blue Devils holding a 13-11 advantage. Duke then used a 7-3 run to extend its lead to 20-14. Georgia Tech responded with a 3-1 stretch to make it 21-17, but Duke held the Yellow Jackets to just three more points while securing the remaining four.
Set Four – Duke 16, Georgia Tech 25
- Georgia Tech clinched the match with a 25-16 victory in the final frame. The set was tied at 6-6 before the Yellow Jackets went on a 12-4 run to take a commanding 18-10 lead. Duke fought back, winning four of the next six points, to cut its deficit, 20-14. The Blue Devils were limited to just two more points, while Georgia Tech secured five to close out the match.
