DURHAM – No. 25 Duke is set for its final regular-season contest as it makes the short trip down Tobacco Road to face No. 15 North Carolina Thursday. First draw is set for 3 p.m., on ESPNU with Dana Boyle and Leah Secondo on the call.
Last Time Out
- Head coach Kerstin Kimel tallied her 350th-career victory as the No. 25 Duke women's lacrosse team tallied a 14-11 victory over Louisville last Friday.
- Kimel's 350 career wins put her sixth among Division I active head coaches. She owns 346 wins at the helm of the Blue Devils and four at Davidson in 1994.
- Duke was led offensively by Olivia Carner and Maddie McCorkle with six and five points, respectively, as Carner tallied four goals and two dimes. McCorkle's five goals tied her career high in goals and points as Kerry Nease and Reese Woodworth each tallied seven draw controls, giving Duke the 21-8 edge.
- Defensively, Margaret Anne Warner paced the Blue Devils with three ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control while Kennedy Everson tallied the win with six saves in cage.
Scouting the Tar Heels
- The Tar Heels come into Thursday's contest 9-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play and ranked 15th nationally. Most recently, they defeated Pitt, 16-9, in Pittsburgh.
- North Carolina is led by Ashley Humphrey with 16 goals and 36 assists for 52 points. The Tar Heel offense features eight players with 20-plus points. Caitlyn Wurzburger owns 24 goals and 19 assists for 43 points. Midfielder Emily Nalls paces the defense with 25 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers and 50 draw controls.
- Goalie Alecia Nicholas boasts a 10.02 GAA and a .368 save percentage with seven wins.
Series History
- Duke and North Carolina meet for the 44th time in program history as the Tar Heels lead the all-time series, 29-14.
- Duke is 4-12 in contests in Chapel Hill. North Carolina has won 14 consecutive and 22 of the last 25 meetings.
- Duke's last win over North Carolina was April 16, 2014 -- a 7-6 overtime contest in Chapel Hill.
Launching Lax Programs
- Head coaches Jenny Levy and Kerstin Kimel are longtime close friends, as North Carolina and Duke each launched their women's lacrosse programs in 1996.
- They represent two of the winningest head coaches in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse history -- Levy 2nd (420 wins), Kimel 6th (350 wins).
