DURHAM - Head coach Kerstin Kimel tallied her 350th-career victory as the No. 25 Duke women's lacrosse team tallied a 14-11 victory over Louisville Friday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.
Kimel's 350-career wins ranks her sixth among Division I active head coaches — she owns 346 wins at the helm of the Blue Devils and four at Davidson in 1994.
Duke was led offensively by Olivia Carner and Maddie McCorkle with six and five points, respectively, as Carner tallied four goals and two dimes. McCorkle's five goals tied her career high in goals and points as Kerry Nease and Reese Woodworth each tallied seven draw controls, giving Duke the 21-8 edge.
Defensively, Margaret Anne Warner paced the Blue Devils with three ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control while Kennedy Everson tallied the win with six saves in cage.
How It Happened
- Louisville started off hot with three straight goals in seven minutes before Mattie Shearer and McCorkle put Duke on the board (3-2). Louisville added a score with 10 seconds left to hold a two goal lead after the first quarter.
- Duke tied it up twice in the second quarter at 4-4 and 5-5 with goals from Carner and Lexi Schmalz. The Nakazawa sisters added consecutive goals (7-5) before Shearer found the back of the cage just before time expired.
- Trailing by one (7-6) at the half, Duke came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and outshot the Cardinals 18-10 in the final 30 minutes.
- The Blue Devils outscored the Cardinals 4-1 in the third quarter as Carner (2), McCorkle and Katie Keller added goals.
- Louisville responded and tied the game for the fourth time as Kokoro Nakazawa notched the equalizer with just under nine minutes left. Duke responded with goals from Carner and McCorkle two minutes before Nakazawa pulled the Cardinals within one (12-11) with four minutes left in the game.
- McCorkle sealed the deal with back-to-back goals as Bella Goodwin and Carner found her for two scores.

- Duke moves to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play while Louisville dips to 7-9 (2-6 ACC).
- The all-time series moves to 10-2 in favor of Duke.
- Duke improves to 7-3 at home this season.
- DeSimone now owns 267 career points to rank fourth in program history. She is just 20 points shy of tying Duke great Katie Chrest Erbe's all-time points record of 287.
- DeSimone now owns 191 career goals to rank third in program history. She is just 25 goals shy of tying Chrest Erbe's all-time goals record (216).
- Duke was nearly flawless on clears (10-of-11) and narrowly won the ground ball game (13-12).
- Duke celebrated its senior class following the contest.
- Louisville was led by Kokoro Nakazawa with five goals while goalie Sara Addeche tallied 11 saves in the setback.
