QUICK HITS
- The Blue Devils have continued to pounce on opponents like they did throughout the 2023 season. Duke has recorded 144 of its 235 runs so far this season from the fourth to eighth innings. That number accounts for 61.3% of the Blue Devils' run production.
- Head coach Chris Pollard surpassed Steve Traylor for second on Duke's all-time win list Tuesday, recording his 357th victory in a Blue Devils uniform. He now begins the chase towards the top spot, occupied by Jack Coombs with 381.
- Duke and Virginia meet for the seventh, eighth and ninth times in the past calendar year. The Blue Devils and Hoos rekindle a Super Regional rematch, that sent Virginia to the College World Series and Duke home for the summer. Both teams split the six games last season, winning three games a side.
- Freshman AJ Gracia continues to chase greatness for Duke in his freshman campaign. He began the season with a 22-game reached base streak and added his seventh home run of the year on Saturday against NC State. Gracia now sits five home runs away from breaking Andrew Fischer's freshman home run record of 11. The Monroe, N.J., native has started all 25 games, producing a slash line of .341/.648/.473, while leading the team in walks with 19. Gracia has also posted 32 RBI this season through 25 games and is now chasing Joey Loperfido's record of 43 RBI by a freshman at Duke.
- Duke improved to 9-0 on the season when scoring 10-plus runs in a game. The Blue Devils nearly tallied their fourth 20-plus run game of the year, scoring 18 against Rider in game two of the double midweek. Duke was 18-0 a year ago when scoring 10 or more runs in a contest and 4-0 in ACC play.
- This weekend's series against the Virginia Cavaliers doesn't just feature two teams who battled for a spot in the College World Series last season, but also has a family connection on the diamond. Duke junior right-handed pitcher Fran Oschell III steps on the diamond once again against his little brother Charlie Oschell. The two have played baseball together on the diamond and meet for the first time in college, as Charlie is a freshman at Virginia this season.
