DURHAM – No. 9 Duke dropped the series opener against NC State on Friday afternoon, 4-3, at Doak Field at Dail Park. Sophomore
Gabriel Nard was charged with the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season, after working two innings in relief and allowing one run to score.
The Blue Devils and the Wolfpack traded blows throughout the first seven innings of play, before Jacob Dudan came on in relief of Sam Highfill and halted the Duke threat.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wallace Clark flew out to left field to score Andrew Yu from third in the top of the second inning, 1-0.
- NC State took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, 2-1.
- Logan Bravo hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, 2-2.
- The Wolfpack took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, 3-2.
- In the top of the seventh, Clark flew out to left field for the second time, scoring Devin Obee from third, 3-3.
- NC State regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh, 4-3.
NOTES
- Graduate Logan Bravo finished the day 1-for-4, hitting his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to tie the ballgame in the top of the sixth inning.
- Junior Jonathan Santucci worked 5.1 hitless innings on Friday, striking out five batters and did not factor into the decision.
- Graduate Ben Miller was the lone Blue Devil with multiple hits on Friday, collecting a 2-for-3 line and drawing a walk.
