DURHAM – The No. 25 Duke women's lacrosse faces team its second ranked opponent of the season as it welcomes No. 13 Johns Hopkins Saturday for a 3 p.m., opening draw. The Blue Devils will then take on Winthrop Sunday at 2 p.m.
OPENING DRAW
- Duke and Johns Hopkins meet for the 10th time in program history and for the first time since 2022. Duke leads the all-time series, 8-1.
- Duke and Winthrop meet for the first time in program history. Head coach Kerstin Kimel is 16-1 against programs in the Big South.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Devils went 1-1 last weekend, falling to No. 25 Navy (9-10) before a 22-14 victory at High Point.
- Senior attacker Katie DeSimone reached 200-career points with her 11 points against the Panthers.
SCOUTING THE BLUE JAYS
- Johns Hopkins began the 2024 season ranked No. 13 nationally and are 2-0 in the early spring.
- Graduate student goalie Madison Doucette, senior midfielder Abbey Hurlbrink and sophomore attacker Ava Angello were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List prior to the start of the season. Doucette and Angello, along with Jennifer Barry, were named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Team.
- Offensively, the Blue Jays are led by Hurlbrink with 9 points (6g, 3a) and Ashley Mackin (5g, 3a). Defensively, Doucette owns 12 ground balls and two caused turnovers and has made 15 saves in the cage for a .441 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Winthrop is 0-1 in the early season after falling to Davidson, 20-2, on Wednesday.
- Katie Witmer and Scarlet Cifarelli tallied the lone goals against the Wildcats.
- Goalie Emma Calhoun picked up eight saves and owns a .286 save percentage this spring. Chlo Patterson owns two ground balls and a caused turnover.
