The Opening Hit
- Duke opens NCAA Championship action in Chapel Hill, Nov. 15 against Maryland. The Blue Devils and Terrapins square off at 1:30, in Karen Shelton Stadium. Both Duke and Maryland earned at-large bids following a successful regular season and solid outing in their respective conference championships. Duke defeated Maryland, 1-0, in the regular season.
- Duke is 8-2 in its last 10 games with all seven of the eight victories being shutouts. The Blue Devils are 26-19 all-time in NCAA Championship action and 15-4 in first-round games. This will be Duke's 20th NCAA appearance in NCAA postseason action and sixth matchup against the Terrapins. Duke is 2-3 versus Maryland.
- Maryland enters NCAA Championship action with a 13-6 overall record. The Terrapins advanced to the Big Ten Championship semifinals before losing to eventual champion Michigan. They bring with them a stalwart defense as one of four schools to sport a goals against average under 1.00.

- Junior Alaina McVeigh is back for her second full season on the turf for the Blue Devils. After missing her freshman season to injury, McVeigh had a breakout season in 2023 to earn the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Year award and First Team All-America honors.
- McVeigh hasn't missed a beat in season two on the turf with the Blue Devils. She has 13 goals this season and has at least a point in six of the past eight games. McVeigh has four two-goal games this season and has scored in all but four games in which Duke has scored a goal. She has scored at least 20 points in both of her seasons and is one of 30 players in history to reach the 60-point marker.
