Duke Swimming and Diving Falls to South Carolina Friday

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving completed their second meet in the Taishoff Aquatics Center, falling to South Carolina 145-155 on the men's side and 139-161 on the women's side. Junior Kaelyn Gridley broke her school record on Friday, touching with a time of 58.68 in the 100 Breaststroke.

NOTABLES

To open the meet, Duke's A-relay in the 200 Medley Relay consisting of Ali Pfaff, Kaelyn Gridley,Aleyna Ozkan, and Tatum Wall posted a first-place finish in the event, clocking a time of 1:36.60.
On the men's side of the 200 Medley Relay, the Blue Devils clocked a time of 1:27.99 to collect second place. The team was comprised of Michael Jiang, Jack Smith, Charlie Morici, and Milo Shue.
On the one-meter men's dive, Yannis Schattman took home first place tallying a score of 342.45, while Charles Berman (322.13) and Tynan O'Donoghue (308.03) finished second and third. Schattman's score in the event moved him into 10th for the one-meter top performers at Duke.
In the three-meter event for the women's side, Margo O'Meara posted a score of 367.20 finishing second, while Keira Lu finished third with a score of 318.75.
Owen Markowitz collected a third-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle, clocking a time of 9:27.13.
In the 200 Freestyle, JC Castrillon collected a first-place finish, touching with a time of 1:38.49.
Duke swept the 100 Backstroke on the women's side, as Ali Pfaff (51.66), Molly Donlan (53.76), and Clare Logan (54.15) all touched in succession.
On the men's side of the 100 Backstroke, Michael Jiang touched in first with a time of 48.36, while Jack Christian clocked a time of 48.96 to finish third.
In the 100 Breaststroke, Kaelyn Gridley broke her school record, touching in first with a time of 58.68.
Jack Smith (54.52) and Kalen Anbar (54.68) touched second and third in the 100 Breaststroke event for the men against South Carolina.
In the women's 200 Butterfly, Martina Peroni claimed second place, touching with a time of 1:57.29.
On the men's side of the 200 Butterfly, Yugo Tsukikawa collected a first-place finish, touching with a time of 1:48.28. He was joined on the podium by Samir Elkassem who touched in second with a time of 1:49.08.
Before the break, Tatum Wall touched first place in the 50 Freestyle, posting a time of 22.15 and KyAnh Truong touched in third with a time of 22.90.
On the men's side of the 50 Freestyle, Milo Shue touched in first with a time of 20.35.
Wall continued her dominance in the Freestyle event, tallying a first-place finish in the 100 event. She clocked a time of 49.07 to score for the Blue Devils.
In the 100 Freestyle, Charlie Morici tallied a first-place finish, touching with a time of 44.63. Milo Shue finished third with a time of 45.41.
Pfaff also continued her dominance in the backstroke events, touching in first during the 200 Backstroke. She clocked a time of 1:53.69. She was joined on the podium by Donlan, who touched in third with a time of 1:56.49.
In the 200 Breaststroke, Gridley took home another first-place finish, touching with a time of 2:09.35.
In the men's 200 Breaststroke, Kalen Anbar (1:58.85) and Jack Smith (2:00.24) collected second and third-place finishes.
In the 100 Butterfly, Aleyna Ozkan secured a second-place finish, touching with a time of 53.30.
On the men's side of the 100 Butterfly, Charlie Morici finished in second with a time of 47.75.
In the women's 200 IM, Martina Peroni touched in first with a time of 1:59.80, while Kyra Sommerstad touched in third at 2:01.31.
In the men's 200 IM, Jiang collected a second-place finish with a time of 1:48.00 and Andrew Li touched in third with a time of 1:49.47.

UP NEXT

Duke returns to the pool on November 8th and 9th, hosting Northwestern for a two-day meet. Friday diving begins at 4 p.m., and Saturday starts at 10 a.m. from the Taishoff Aquatics Center.
